Abstract:

Materials relating to Dorothy M. Honor's participation in the Peace Officer Training Service in Oakland, California between 1958 and 1961. Instructional materials include a copy of Peace Officer Training Service's Police Procedure (brad-bound in blue faux-leather flexible covers, undated, approximately 50pp); and a copy of the 1960 Peace Officers Hand Book (tan stapled wrappers, 164pp); and copies of instructional booklets on topics such as memory training, grammar, how to study, public speaking, general knowledge, civics, spelling, and vocabulary. Also included are flyers, a calendar, and Dorothy M. Honor's notes, tests and a graded report as well as one photograph of Dorothy M. Honor.

Dorothy Mae Payne was the first of seven children born to Gertude Mary Hamilton and Henry Tillman Payne on April 11, 1932 in Seminole, OK. Dorothy spent her formative years in Fresno, CA and San Diego. She graduated from San Diego High School in 1950. She married Lenon Honor, Sr. and had four children: Lucretia Marion Honor, Lenon Honor, Jr., Deborah Denise Honor and Lovell Thomas Honor. Dorothy worked for the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Officers' Club in San Diego for 41 years.
